Acute Pain Management

Acute pain is pain that has come on suddenly and may be a sign of injury or disease.

Common signs of acute pain in pets are:

• Changes in behavior or decreased social interactions
• Anxiety
• Howling, growling, or whimpering
• Refusing to move
• Licking or chewing an area of the body

If you notice any of these symptoms, please give us a call right away. We will run diagnostic tests to figure out the cause of the pain, and then we will typically prescribe a combination of pain medication and rest.

Chronic Pain Management

Chronic pain will likely have many of the same symptoms as acute pain but is the result of a long-lasting or incurable condition. Treating chronic pain is more about treating the symptoms while treating acute pain is treating the cause of the pain.

Treatments for chronic pain can include medications, supplements, and alternative therapies. Chronic pain can be caused by things like arthritis and cancer. Our veterinarians are happy to go over all of your options with you to treat both acute and chronic pain.
